Ask Your Piercer Questions

Kimberley Rowan - Senior Piercer, Studio Owner and Jewelry Designer

A new piercing is going to require some time and attention daily to heal properly.  Immediately following the piercing, take the time to ask your Piercer detailed questions regarding healing time and aftercare. Professional Piercers are always gathering information on piercings each time their client comes into the studio. They chat with their client about their routines, their cleaning methods and the aftercare they use. They develop a wealth of information through years of helping clients with their problem piercings and observing well healed piercings throughout the healing process. So pick their brains for useful information that may help you along your way. You may be surprised by some of the unique ideas your Piercer will have to help you with your piercings. You might find they have a great tip on how not to sleep on the ear you just got pierced. Little things can make all the difference. They may give you the quick list on what to do and not to do. Some Piercers will give you a holistic approach to healing that may intrigue you to try something a little different. It’s always good to pick up some tips to save you some aggravation and time.

Along with the tips, your Piercer should always give verbal instructions on how to take care of a new piercing along with written instructions on basic routine aftercare that is always needed. Written instructions are required by law in most states. Ask if the studio has a guarantee policy. Is there a fee if you need to come back to have it checked out?  What if I don't like the placement and I need it redone? It's good to be familiar how the Piercer will handle any potential problems or unhappy clients. Not all studios have the same customer service or the same policies. Before you leave the studio, get the information you need by asking lots of questions.
